NMSA Guest Artist workshop
In the spring of this year, I was an invited guest artist in a three day workshop with the printmaking students at the New Mexico School for the Arts in Santa Fe.
The workshop invited the students to explore their own cultural or familial heritage and express it through individual and collaborative art-making. Working in pairs, students planned and wove together their prints and traditions in intricate woven constructions.
The culmination of the workshop with these talented students is their work displayed alongside my solo exhibition at the City of Santa Fe Community Gallery in July and August.
New Traditions/Weaving Reimagined
City of Santa Fe Community Gallery
201 West Marcy Street
Santa Fe, New Mexico
July 16 through August 15, 2026
Opening Reception July 16, 2026 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM
This exhibition honors generations of weaving tradition in my family, pushing textile-inspired creations in fiber, both traditional and new.
My work honors the technical mastery and aesthetic principles of traditional Rio Grande and Chimayó weaving, but moves beyond historical reproduction—incorporating paper, ink, and printmaking processes into woven constructions to create something entirely my own. Central to this practice is the legacy of my great-grandfather, Antonio Mier, a master weaver who helped establish the Rio Grande tradition in the early twentieth century; I carry that lineage forward, reimagining its possibilities for contemporary audiences.
For me, weaving is more than craft; it's a living conversation across generations. Texture, color, rhythm, and pattern become vehicles for storytelling, memory, and cultural continuity—a reminder that traditions survive not by staying static, but by evolving through the hands and imagination of those who inherit them.
The new work in this solo exhibition was made possible by a generous Art Is The Solution Grant I received from the City of Santa Fe Arts and Culture Department in 2025. It allowed me to concentrate my time on a new and comprehensive body of work; a culmination of my most current creative output. For this, I am deeply grateful.
Contemporary Hispanic Market
Booth 102 on Lincoln Avenue
Between Palace Avenue and Marcy Street
Santa Fe, New mexico
July 25 and 26, 2026
8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
I am honored to participate in the 40th annual Contemporary Hispanic Market. I first began showing in this market in 2001, and it continues to be a meaningful part of my artistic practice.
The venue of downtown Santa Fe in the summer makes for an ideal way to take in the work of New Mexico’s talented hispanic artists. The media used to create work by the many artists in this unique show varies, and the voices are distinct. It has been a privilege to grow as an artist alongside this market and the community of artists who return to Lincoln Avenue year after year. I have met so many appreciative and kind people through the years who travel from all around the world to visit my beautiful ancestral home and this show.
I look forward to sharing my new work with longtime collectors and new visitors alike.
